Course Date:
Part 1: Distance Learning-Independent must be completed prior to Monday, June 1, 2026. The learner should plan for 2.5 hours to complete the course and for taking the post-recording quiz. Must complete Part 1 (independent learning) and pass the quiz by 80% prior to June 1, 2026 to process your participation for part 2.

Target Audience:
Clinicians who are Clinical Instructors, involved in Fellowship/Residency Programs, or other clinical mentoring roles are looking to improve their skills and learn the strategies to mentor and develop mentees toward clinical expertise.

Recommended pre-course activity:
 A narrative reflection, self-assessment, and     motivation assessment for course attendees will   be sent to registrants prior to the course and   asked to complete prior to Part 1.  Participants   will be asked to keep these documents   accessible during both Part 1 and Part 2 of this   course.    
 
  Recommended pre-course activity: Attendees MUST have successfully completed Part 1 of the Mentoring Workshop: Examining & Expanding Mentoring Practices , Distance Learning - Independent Learning Format, passed the Part 1 quiz with a score of 80% or greater, and completed the feedback form. 
Description:
The growth and development of clinical programs will depend on enhancing the mentoring skills of clinical mentors for the next generation of expert clinicians. The focus of this workshop is to provide clinicians with the skills and the strategies to mentor and develop mentees toward clinical expertise. This course will facilitate the growth of clinical programs, including residency programs, through the advancement of clinical teaching and best practice during clinical mentorship. Clinicians will be more effective and efficient practitioners and clinical mentors by modeling, integrating, and promoting behaviors that are congruent with a mentoring culture. Discussion and active participation in case presentations/scenarios related to mentorship will engage the audience in reflection and problem-solving. Participants will actively engage in role playing, peer feedback and dialogue with the instructors on the roles of the mentor and mentee in achieving a successful and reciprocal relationship in an advanced practice setting. Part 1 of this course will be presented via pre-recorded lectures with required passing of the quiz to participate in part 2.

Part 2 - Current literature will be used to discuss teaching and learning styles in clinical mentorship.
Learning Objectives:
 Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
  1. Describe the expected outcomes the mentee should achieve after a mentoring program.
  2. Identify learning styles and teaching styles.
  3. Integrate knowledge of learning and teaching styles into a mentoring strategy.
  4. Develop mentoring tools to maximize the mentee’s learning.
  5. Formulate a strategy for implementing mentoring tools and evaluating mentor's performance.
  Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
  1. Describe the differences between resident mentoring from clinical instruction of the entry level student and/or training of a new employee
  2. Describe the roles of the mentor and mentee, as well as the reciprocity of the mentor/mentee relationship.
  3. Examine roadblocks to successful mentoring practices
  4. Examine current mentoring relationships and identify challenges and strengths
  5. Assess your own personal mentoring skills and identify areas for skill development and growth

Assessment of Learning Objectives:          Part 1: Post-lecture quiz with a passing score of 80%.   Assessment of Learning Objectives: Multi-part Case Studies in Groups - Instructor Reviewed, Question and answers, discussion, course feedback form, post-lecture quiz with a passing score of 80%.
