Course Description:
Lower extremity tendon injuries are common in the active population among all ages, and can be a difficult condition to treat due to the persistent nature of the pathology. With advancements in portable ultrasound imaging technology, integration of imaging into the physical therapy setting in unique ways to supplement our treatment of lower extremity tendon injuries are becoming readily available. This advanced 2-day course will provide a thorough review of the most recent scientific findings related to the examination, diagnosis and treatment of lower extremity injuries. It will also cover the basics of musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging and application in the physical therapy setting. Discussion will focus on the current literature pertaining to lower extremity tendon pathophysiology, and the recommended treatments and clinical decision making needed to achieve superior outcomes. Case studies will be integrated to illustrate concepts and promote idea application. The overall objective is to provide each participant with an understanding of the current knowledge pertaining to the management of lower extremity tendon injuries, and gain introductory skills related to musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging to apply in the physical therapy setting.
