The Brain Injury Association of America offers a national certification program through its Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists (ACBIS). This two-day training is the official course designed to prepare participants to sit for the Certification Exam and join more than 7,000 Certified Brain Injury Specialists worldwide.
The CBIS credential exam is open to any profession or discipline serving people with brain injury. This course will review materials which may be covered on the exam.
The CBIS Exam is a 70 question, multiple choice exam, on which you must get 80% correct in order to earn your CBIS Certification. To pass the CBIS Exam you will need to study and prepare well in advance. The CBIS Review Course will be instructed by ACBIS Certified Brain Injury Specialist Trainers (CBISTs).Eligibility requirements for taking the CBIS Exam can be found at http://www.biausa.org/acbis/cbis.
To obtain certification, candidates must:
- Complete the required work experience/training as outlined by BIAUSA/ACBIS.
Testing Information & Guidelines
- ♦ The examination is administered online with automated proctoring.
- ♦ Each applicant has two hours to complete the examination (unless accommodations have been requested under the ADA and approved).
- ♦ Examination sessions are not scheduled in advance. They are available at all times, unless the hosting company is maintaining its servers or the servers are full in capacity.
- ♦ There are 70 multiple choice questions. All of the questions are equal in value. Each question has five answer choices. There is only one correct answer for each question.
- ♦ Candidates must score 80% or higher on the examination in order to pass and receive certification.
Note: Depending on when an applicant sits for the examination, immediate assistance by BIAA’s ACBIS staff may not be available (i.e. outside of normal business hours, weekends, holidays, etc.).
Permission for automated proctoring (including facial, screen, and audio capture recordings) is required during the entirety of the testing session. System requirements include:
- An internet-connected desktop computer or laptop with a working web camera and microphone enabled
- An internet-connected smartphone or tablet with a working camera and ability to scan a QR code
- A photo ID (i.e., driver’s license)
- Chrome or Firefox browser; Google Chrome is recommended
