Overview
Course Description: Assessing and treating dysphagia is one of the most complicated and challenging processes an SLP does each day. This course will focus on assessment and treatment according to the most recent evidence with an emphasis on standardizing the language and procedures of instrumental assessments. Additionally, the course will focus on the most recent treatment recommendations found in the current literature.
Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:
Describe the structures involved in the biomechanical process of swallowing.
Examine the components of a cranial nerve assessment.
Differentiate the variables between normal/abnormal oropharyngeal swallows.
Appraise 3 treatment approaches and the supporting evidence.
Compare and contrast NMES appropriateness and considerations.
