| - Course Descriptions: Rehabilitation nursing is the care and management of patients that have had altered functional ability and lifestyle as the result of an injury or illness. It involves the diagnosis and treatment of responses that patients have to actual or potential problems related to health. This course will provide up to date evidence-based information to the registered nurse both to increase knowledge of the rehabilitation process and also as preparation to take the Certification exam for the Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN). Topics included will be Brain Injury, Spinal Cord Injury, Neurodegenerative disease management, Dysphasia/ Communication Problems, Case Management, Rehabilitation Nursing Theory, and Outcome Measurements related to Rehabilitation Nursing. A brief overview of test taking strategies will be offered and some resources available on the internet will also be available for the attendees to review.
| - Objectives for Rehabilitation Nursing Review Workshop: Preparation for the Certification for the Rehabilitation Registered Nurse Exam
Explain the deficits with communication and swallowing seen in patients in the rehabilitation setting and identify appropriate nursing interventions. Reflect on the role of the registered nurse in the rehabilitation setting to identify interventions and establish a plan of care that includes patient centered goals. Explain the admission criteria and legislative and regulatory issues that affect access to post- acute rehabilitation settings. Define the role and scope of practice of the Case Manager in rehabilitation and the continuum of care setting. Review the epidemiology and etiology of brain injury,stroke, and spinal cord injury and describe the appropriate rehabilitation nursing interventions Apply the principles of theories pertinent to rehabilitation nursing to practice in the rehabilitation setting. Identify the developmental stages for the pediatric patient and formulate age specific interventions for planning pediatric interventions. Differentiate the etiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment and nursing interventions for chronic neurological conditions in rehab.
