This course is part 1 of the FEES competency process for SLPs within the Memorial Hermann System. Following successful completion, you and/or your manager will reach out to TMC or TIRR SLP teams to complete hands on passes with a mannequin. Immediately following that, the SLP will begin scoping patients until competency is reached. |
Description: A foundational knowledge course for Speech-Language Pathologists without prior knowledge in Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) administration to learn use of the procedure, as well as, provide basic training in interpretation and documentation using this assessment method.
Learning Objectives: At the end of the course, the participants will:
- Define and describe the anatomy of the nasal cavity and pharynx as it relates to the FEES procedure.
- Analyze normal and abnormal swallow function and determine the etiology of the deficits.
- Choose appropriate strategies or rehabilitation maneuvers during FEES based on biomechanical deficits.
