All licensed professionals working with people who have a Brain Injury.     
Physical Therapy (PT), Physical Therapy Assistants (PTA), Occupational Therapists (OT), Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTA), Speech Language Pathologists (SLP), Audiologists, Registered Nurses (RN), Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN), Neuropsychologists/Psychologists (NP), Physicians (MD), Music Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, and all other licensed healthcare providers.
 
CEU/ CCU:

Criteria for Course Completion:
Licensed Medical Professionals are required to participate in discussion and presented activities, completed feedback form, sign in and sign out according to professional group’s oversight standards. Participation over video and audio interaction.
 
It is recommended that this course be completed on a laptop/desktop, as the nature of the course will require attendees to participate and receive documents/attachments in the Zoom chat. Viewing this course on smart phones is highly discouraged. This course is a preparation for certification exam only and does not guarantee CBIS certification.
 
Optional Exam:
After the Review course, participants may select to complete a proctored exam following course completion. To take the CBIS Exam, attendees should complete the ACBIS Application Procedure and pay the application fee directly to ACBIS, and coordinate the exam through ACBIS. A passing score of 80% is required to obtain national credential of Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS).

Attendance:Participants must attend the entire course in order to receive CEUs/CCUs and course certificate.  No partial credits given.
 
 
Course Description: The program is a comprehensive overview of Brain Injury including the medical management, functional impact on the person and/or family, and legal/ethical issues encountered with treating people with an Acquired Brain Injury.  The mission of the Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists (ACBIS) is to improve the quality of care given to individuals with a brain injury through the education and training of those who work in brain injury services. To that end, ACBIS offers a voluntary national certification program that establishes best practices for the training of individuals working with people with an Acquired Brain Injury.
 
Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
 
1.    Discuss 2 factors of etiology, neuroanatomy, and neuroplasticity associated with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI).
2.    Categorize 2 medical, physical, and psychosocial issues resulting from an ABI.
3.    Discuss the rehabilitation philosophy and cultural competence when working with those who have an ABI, their families, and/or caregivers.
4.    Highlight 2 issues concerning special populations, including children and adolescents through questions and discussion.
5.    Apply 2 case management strategies and common legal issues that impact people with an ABI, families, and/or caregivers.
6.    Illustrate 2 outcome measures when working with those who have a ABI, their families, and/or caregivers. 

 
Instructional Methods Used:  Lecture, Discussion, Quiz questions, Learning Activities, PowerPoint presentations
 
Assessment of Learning Objectives:  In-course quiz questions and activities will reinforce learning. Participants will assess their achievement of each learning objective through completion of a course feedback form.  Those who choose may also pursue certification through ACBIS at a later date.
