Course Description:
The prevalence of brain injuries and strokes continue to increase each year. There often are long lasting sequelae from these injuries including physical, cognitive, language, and behavioral deficits. The growth and development of clinical treatment programs will depend on enhancing the skills of clinical staff for the next generation of expert clinicians. The focus of this conference is to provide clinicians with an advanced overview of special topics, clinical skills, and strategies for treatment teams working with those who have a brain injury or stroke.
This course will facilitate the growth of clinical programs of a comprehensive treatment team, through the advancement of best practice in brain injury rehabilitation. Clinicians will be more effective and efficient practitioners by integrating, and promoting behaviors that are congruent with those explored in the course.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:
Participants will be able to apply information about medical complications after a brain injury and/or stroke that influence treatment, prognosis, interdisciplinary team approach, and goal setting for clients that have a brain injury and/or stroke.
Participants will be able to implement specific team goals and treatment plans to facilitate recovery after brain injury and/or stroke in the post-acute treatment setting.
Participants will be able to relate to the impact of TBI on caregivers and situations of ambiguous loss influencing various patient/family encounters.
