Description: A training and education course for Speech-Language Pathologists without prior knowledge in Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) administration to learn use of the procedure, as well as, provide basic training in interpretation and documentation using this assessment method. On day two of this course, we will involve hands on practice with the equipment and a mannequin, as well as, documentation with case study presentations.
Handouts: Hard-copy handouts will be given at the course on registration.
Learning Objectives: At the end of the course, the participants will:
- Define and describe the anatomy of the nasal cavity and pharynx as it relates to the FEES procedure.
- Analyze normal and abnormal swallow function and determine the etiology of the deficits.
- Document following a case study to demonstrate the ability to determine deficits and create an appropriate treatment plan with recommendations.
- Demonstrate understanding of and ability to pass a FEES scope with physical manipulation of the instrumentation on a Phacon mannequin.
