Course Description:	Psychosocial and cognitive factors have a significant impact on the presentation and course of individuals experiencing life altering injury, illness, or disease process. Mental health providers, physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) clinicians and other allied health professionals address these concerns using specialized assessments and interventions to facilitate recovery and improve quality of life. The objective of this symposium is to provide clinicians an overview of special topics, skills, and strategies for individual providers and teams working to facilitate an individual’s psychological and social recovery following a life altering event.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this conference, participants will be able to:

Examind the application of psychosocial and cognitive assessment tools used by the mental health and PMR professionals in the care of individuals experiencing life-altering injury, illness, or disease.
Analyze the role of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing the psychological and social recovery needs in patients with life-altering conditions.
Apply and integrate intervention strategies tailored to the psychosocial needs of individualy recovering from significant health events.
