Overview:
This event will be a compilation of presentations by residency groups from Harris Health, Memorial Hermann, and Texas Children’s. The presentations will include description and findings from their cumulative research project topics. The day will cover topics related to sport injuries of the upper and lower quarters, considerations in spine rehabilitation, special topics such as factors associated with aspiration pneumonia in those with a traumatic brain injury, and outcomes following external fixation use.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:
Understand humeral retrotorsion and other associated findings in the upper quarter and UCL in Baseball players.
Understand variations in passive shoulder flexion ROM in female adolescent gymnasts.
Describe outcomes in patients with external fixators.
Describe differences of QT vs BPTP autografts in ACL Reconstruction in Field and Court Sport Athletes.
Identify factors associated with incidence of aspiration in pneumonia in those with a traumatic brain injury.
Describe any differences in deep neck flexor endurance test between post-op vs. conservative spine management.
Describe short term patient reported outcomes post lumbar surgery.
Understand patient reported short term outcomes post Periacetabular Osteotomy.
Describe hip external rotation PROM variations that may be found in adolescent female performing arts athletes.
Assessment of Learning Objectives: Learner will self-report via course feedback survey on whether objects were met from the presentation. Throughout the day there will also be sufficient time for questions to be answered.
Education
Attendance: Participants must attend the entire course in order to receive CEUs/CCUs and course certificate.
This course is approved for 2.34 CCU's for PTs and PTAs
No partial credits will be given.
Target Audience: Physical Therapy (PT), Physical Therapy Assistants (PTA) seeking to update knowledge on current research being conducted on orthopedic and sports injuries and rehabilitation.
Instructional Level: Basic/Introductory
