Course Description:
This set of pre-recorded lectures will to introduce the neurologic therapist and expose them to pediatric diagnoses in the NICU and early developmental stages. They will take into special consideration the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) interventions and understanding motor development. The lectures will to introduce the neurologic therapist and expose them to special consideration with neuropsychological development and behavioral considerations, the unique role of the therapist in the school settings, and an overview of Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) in Texas.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
Report on the Synactive Theory of Development and interpret implication for therapy services with infants in the neonatal ICU.
Compare and contrast the 4 pre-dominate developmental theories: Neural-Maturationist, Cognitive- Behavioral, Cognitive- Piagetian, and Dynamical Systems Theory.
Describe the basic behavioral principles that support effective behavior modification strategies.
Apply two behavioral strategies within everyday clinical practice settings.
Describe the scope of practice and goals addressed in schools.
Describe the scope of practice and goals addressed in ECI.
