Course Description:
This course is appropriate for occupational therapy practitioners and physical therapy practitioners looking to enhance their knowledge and advance their skills in wheelchair seating and mobility. Attendees will be engaged in content related to funding considerations, determining appropriate types of seating systems and accessories, determining drive controls, and medical considerations for seating and mobility. This course will have didactic lectures, interactive case studies, and an equipment fair.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
Explain key components of a mat evaluation and a seating clinic.
Articulate how funding influences the decision-making process in the seating clinic.
Demonstrate an understanding of Medicare’s coverage criteria when selecting an optimal seating system.
Determine the types of cushions commonly prescribed for individuals with neurologic conditions.
Determine the potential advantages of prescribing a custom mold as an early intervention.
Articulate the benefits of tilt/recline for spasticity management.
