Target Audience:
Occupational Therapists (OT), Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTA), Physical Therapy (PT), Physical Therapy Assistants (PTA), Speech Language Therapists (SLP) and other Healthcare Professionals who are looking to advance clinical expertise and treatment planning for clients with visual impairments related to neurologic illness, injury or disease.

Course Description:
This course will provide a brief review of vision screening techniques and will focus on increasing confidence in vision intervention for adults with neurological impairments. Each treatment technique will include a “how to” demonstration of the screening or treatment, analysis of the information for those techniques, and final synthesis of the information through a short case study and discussion to include occupation-based performance examples. Using a virtual format, participants will engage in group discussions and clinical case studies to reinforce their learning.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
Illustrate common visual and visual-perceptual impairments associated with Traumatic Brain Injury and Stroke, and illustrate aspects of one basic vision screening for referral to a vision specialist.
Explain multi-disciplinary and functional impacts of visual impairments.
Demonstrate basic and advanced treatment approaches addressing visual deficits including environmental modifications and remedial visual therapy exercises.
Develop basic and advanced clinical skills to assist with treatment planning for the patient with visual and visual-perceptual impairments.
