Course Description:This course advances knowledge and practice related to dysphagia evaluation and management in the areas of Neurorheumatology, complex cardiac diagnoses, dysphagia at end of life, and the impact of the respiratory system on swallowing.
Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Participant will differentiate various rheumatology diagnoses and how they impact swallow and GI function.
- Participant will distinguish complex cardiac diagnoses and how that pertains to dysphagia.
- Participant will appraise the pros and cons of end of life decisions and managing oral intake versus supplemental nutrition.
- Participant will identify aspects of the respiratory system and how they impact the swallowing mechanism.
- Participant will plan dysphagia therapy treatments that would benefit from respiratory muscle strength training.
