Hands On Ultrasound Guided Procedures for Cancer Rehabilitation
Megan Clark, MD
Date: April 30th
Time: 2 – 5 PM
Location: MD Anderson ACB8.2680 Conference Room
Target Audience: Physicians, Physiatrists, Pain Specialists, Oncologists
Pre-Requisite Training: MD/DO training or practicing in cancer rehabilitation
Course Description: This hands-on workshop, led by a mid-career experienced cancer rehabilitation physician, will provide in-depth training on ultrasound-guided injections and nerve blocks commonly used for cancer patients. Special focus will be placed on the pectoralis block, serratus block, intercostal block, and a review of muscles involved for head & neck cancer with cervical dystonia that require botulinum toxin injections. Participants will gain a strong understanding of how to perform these procedures to manage cancer-related pain and spasticity. The workshop will combine didactic lectures with hands-on practice, offering small group sessions where participants can work directly with live models to enhance their ultrasound visualization and procedural skills. This interactive environment will equip participants with the tools necessary to perform these essential interventions confidently.
Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Identify nerves, blood vessels, and musculature under ultrasound for various nerve blocks.
- Perform ultrasound-guided nerve blocks to effectively manage cancer-related pain and improve patient outcomes.
- Demonstrate accurate identification and visualization of target muscles using ultrasound for head and neck botulinum toxin injections, with a focus on muscles commonly addressed in spasticity and cervical dystonia.
CME Information: The Memorial Hermann Health System is accredited by the Texas Medical Association to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The Memorial Hermann Health System designates this live activity for a maximum of 3 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s) ™.
