3rd Annual MH APP Conference Abstract Call Instructions You are invited to submit an abstract(s) for a poster presentation for the 3rd Annual MH APP Conference June 2024. The conference will be held in Houston, Texas from June 22-23, 2024. The conference call for abstracts opens Monday February 5, 2024, and closes Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. central time. For each abstract submitted, presenters will be notified by electronic communication of their acceptance status by Monday, June 3, 2024. Abstract submission is open to all APPs (NPs/PAs) in the following categories: - APRN Student Submission: Nursing and/or other clinical care-related projects enhancing patient outcomes, nursing practice, or the work environment.
- APP Student/APP Practicing Provider: Submit an interesting clinical case highlighting collaboration and consultation with interdisciplinary colleagues. Highlight the diagnostic features, care coordination/management strategies and experts involved in managing the case and securing a diagnosis. Relate your experience and share with learners at least one clinical pearl that could be immediately replicated in similar practices.
- APP Leaders: Topics directly or indirectly involve one or more of the advanced practice roles and target an administrative, financial, managerial, policy and/or practice aspect of advanced practice.
Elements for abstract submission: Section Character Limit with space (2,500 total) | Section | 300 | Purpose (What): Identify the overall goal/intent of the initiative, quality improvement or research project. | 500 | Relevance/Significance (Why): Describe the initiative/quality improvement project/research’s relevance and importance in the context of APP practice and healthcare delivery and why the initiative/project/research was necessary. Research projects should include the aim and hypotheses. | 700 | Strategy/Implementation/Methods (How): Describe the action plan and its implementation. Research projects should include design, sample, instruments, data collection procedures, and analytic approaches used. | 700 | Evaluation/Outcomes/Results (So what): Describe findings and include actual evaluation data demonstrating the value of the initiative (success or failure). Note: For research projects, this section must include quantitative or qualitative data and must link to concrete results (stronger abstracts show how the results impact practice or patient outcomes). | 300 | Conclusions/Implications for Practice (And now): Discuss the meaning of the findings and their implications for healthcare and patient care. | N/A | References: Provide at least three references using the American Psychological Association (APA) format. |
Elements for complex clinical case submission: Your case may not contain more than 2,500 characters, not including spaces. Each graphic, table or image equals 600 characters and is included as part of the 2,500 -character limit. The case must be presented in the following sequence, using the headings listed: - Background: In an initial paragraph, provide relevant background information for the case, preferably in no more than one or two sentences.
- Case: Describe the patient, their history and any other relevant information that led to the decision-making.
- Discussion: Discuss what choices were made based on the case, how you proceeded and any relevant teaching points.
- Conclusion: State the conclusions reached. It is not satisfactory to state “the results will be discussed.”

Poster Presentation Guidelines • Poster displays will be limited to one side of a 4 foot by 8-foot tack board. The recommended poster size is 3 feet by 6.5 feet (36 inches x 78 inches). • The poster board number assigned to the poster must be placed in the upper left-hand corner of the display. A poster board number cut-out will be provided and must be always visible. • Be sure to include the abstract title, author and co-author names, and the institution(s) where research/QI project/case study is underway. • Place your e-mail address, phone, and fax numbers in the upper right-hand corner of the poster board. • It is suggested that you place multiple copies of a reproduction of the abstract in the upper left-hand side of the poster, written with the headings “Introduction/Background,” Methods,” “Results,” and “Conclusions”. Include your contact information on these copies for attendees who desire further information. • It is recommended that you hand-carry your poster to the conference, using tubular packaging or a portfolio case. Costs associated with creating the poster display will be the responsibility of the authors. Velcro (easiest to use), pushpins, or thumbtacks will be provided to mount your poster. • Refer to your acceptance letter and/or the final conference program for the time and location of your poster session and set-up time. • The designated poster presenter (author or coauthor) must be present at the assigned space during the designated time to discuss the work presented. • Poster Set-Up: Go to the Poster Hall and set up your poster on your assigned numbered board first day of the conference between 07:30 AM-08:00 AM. Set-up usually takes about 5-10 minutes. If you have questions, please go to the front conference information desk for assistance. Length of Session All posters must be displayed during the entire 2-days conference. Poster must be removed at the end of the conference. Judging Criteria for Poster Presentations: Poster presenters will be judged on the following criteria using a 12-point Likert-like scale (1-3 Satisfactory; 4-6 Good; 7-9 Excellent; 10-12 Superior): - Overall appearance: The poster is legible and not cluttered with text; any visuals used are effective.
- Organization & flow: The components of the poster are organized in a logical flow.
- Clarity of content: Sufficient background information is provided, and the research/QI project/case studybeing communicated is easy to understand.
- Quality of poster presentation: The presenter explained the poster clearly, demonstrated content knowledge and was able to answer questions.
